During the Great Flood of 1937, he and six other families were stranded in their 2nd Street house, but were ultimately unharmed. Familially he observed Passover and High Holidays but only attended a synagogue as members. Jay attended the University of Kentucky for two years and created Kentucky Floor Covering Distributors after working at several different furniture stores. He was an active member at the Jewish Community Center, involved in “all the clubs” and met his wife there. His father was in the United States Navy in WWI and he served in Korea, also enduring the hardships of Israeli conflicts.
