Item

Title

The Bulletin, April 1941

Description

The April 1941, vol. 18, no. 18 issue of The Bulletin, a World War II era newsletter of the Louisville Section of the National Council of Jewish Women in Kentucky. The issue opens with an address from local Council President Esther J. Handmaker
she recounts the National Council's long history and asks for monetary support for its ongoing work with new immigrants and refugees. The "Two and Two Make four" column details how cooperation on the local and national levels impacts refugees and Americans and how to get in touch with specific organizations. Funding, registration, and education for refugees and employment for Americans are common themes. The issue provides updates on the Work Shop, Memorial fund, Nursery School, Student Loan fund, Red Cross donations, Jewish Hospital, Book Review Teas, fruit and flower Guild, Council enrollment numbers, and Penny Bank donation deadlines. The issue explores the newly formed Louisville section of the Night Group, which offers an alternative to existing afternoon sessions. A note reminds members to pay their dues. In a discussion of the Penny Lunch program, the Commitee states it "is most grateful for contributions and to those who give their personal service. We need both, to carry on." The issue end with a poetic advertisement for the April Council meeting.
