Record of Emma Gary’s 1878 admission to the Home for Friendless Women.

The Home accepted women in a variety of situations, including prostitutes and women who merely needed a temporary place to stay. The Home especially assisted unwed mothers until they gave birth, sometimes confining them for a year afterwards to “rehabilitate” them.
