Settle of Seneca, Kansas concerning the abuse her adopted daughter Elma had possibly endured at the home, as she has bruises and cries out to not be whipped whenever she is changed. Mrs. Settler also requested a picture of Elma's birth mother, Mrs. Jackson. Mrs. Settle's mother has declined adopting an orphaned girl named Nellie because she has never met her before.
