Interior of Jennie Benedict’s popular restaurant and confectionary at 554 South 4th Street. Benedict renovated the building in 1911 to include modern equipment, tile floor, and a beamed ceiling—all for the cost of $800,000. In addition to running her restaurant, she also helped found the Business Women’s Club and used her invaluable expertise to run the club’s lunchroom.
