Abramson attended the Louisville public schools of Greathouse Elementary, Hawthorne Elementary, and Seneca Middle School, and graduated from the brand-new Seneca High School in 1964. During high school, he was active in the teen programs at the JCC, particularly the national Jewish high school fraternity Aleph Zedek Aleph (AZA) sponsored by B’nai B’rith, an international Jewish social and service organization. Abramson assumed leadership roles locally in the Louisville Resnick AZA chapter and regionally within the Kentucky-Indiana-Ohio (KIO) AZA district. At Seneca High School, he played in the marching band, was active in debate, and sang in the rock band Apollo and the Sunsetters.
